Hello

Which country do you come from, Long Tao?
A:
Wǒ lái zì Yīnɡɡuó.

A:
Yīnwèi wǒ juédé wǒ yào xué yí ɡe wánquán xīn de wénhuà(de huà), yào xué de hěn shēn, yídìnɡ yào xuéxí yǔyán.
Because I think (if) I need to understand a brand-new culture, to understand it thoroughly, (I) must learn its language.
Q:
Suǒyǐ nǐ juédìnɡ xué hànyǔ.
So you decided to learn Chinese.
A:
Ng
Em.
Q:
Nǐ xuéxí hànyǔ yǒu duōjiǔ le?
How long you have learnt Chinese?
A:
yíɡònɡ wǔ nián 。
Totally 5 years.
Q:
Wǔ nián le? Zài zhè wǔ nián de xuéxí ɡuòchénɡ dānɡzhōnɡ, nǐ yùdào le shénme xuéxí kùnnán?
5 years? Within these 5 years of learning Chinese, what difficulties did you encounter?
A:
Wǒ juédé wàiɡuórén lái shuō, zuì dà de kùnnán shì xiě hànzì, háiyǒu bǎwò shēnɡdiào.
I think to foreigners, the biggest difficulties are writing Chinese characters and mastering the tones.
Q:
Nà zuì dà de zhànɡ’ài shì shénme?
Then, what was the biggest obstacle?
A:
Duì wǒ lái shuō shì(xiě)hànzì, yīnwèi hànzì dōuhěn fùzá. Yóuqíshì fántǐzì.
To me, it is (writing) Chinese characters, because they are quite complicated. Especially Traditional Chinese.
Q:
hái huì xiě fán tǐ zì ?
(You) even know how to write Traditional Chinese?
A:
Yìdiǎndiǎn lɑ.

A little bit.

Nà nǐ rúhé kèfú zhè ɡe zuì dà de zhànɡ’ài?
So how did you overcome this biggest problem?
A:
Zhèɡe zhǐyǒu yí ɡe bànfǎ, nàjiùshì měitiān dōuyào liànxí, měitiān yào xiě, měitiān yào chāo.
There is only one method: that is daily practice. Write everyday. Copy everyday.

Talking about learning Chinese, do you have any learning tips (to share)?
A:
Wǒ juédé jiāo Zhōnɡɡuó pénɡyou bǐjiào hǎo, yīnwèi nǐ kěyǐ ɡēn tāmen xué rìchánɡ yònɡyǔ, érqiě yǒu yíɡe yǔyán de huánjìnɡ, bānɡ nǐ duō tīnɡ duō shuō duō liànxí.
I think making Chinese friends is rather well, because you can learn commonly-used words from them, and this provides a language environment and enables you speak more, listen more and practice more.
Q:
Hěn hǎo. Nà nǐ juédé nǐ de Hànyǔ lǎoshī duì nǐ zuì dà de bānɡzhù shì shénme?
Very good. And in your opinion, what did your Chinese teachers help you the most?
A:
Yīnwèi wǒmen bān yǒu hěn duō láizì bùtónɡ ɡuójiā de rén, bǐrúshuō Hán ɡuó, Rìběn, Yìdàlì, Éluósī, tāmen bùyídìnɡ huì shuō Yīnɡyǔ, lǎoshī zhǐnénɡ yònɡ Zhōnɡwén lái jiǎnɡkè, lái jiěshì yìxiē nán de cíyǔ.
Because in our class, there were many people from difficult countries, e.g. Korea, Japan, Italy and Russia. They did not all speak English and our teachers could only explain difficult vocabulary with simple Chinese.
Q:
Suǒyǐ bānɡzhù bǐjiào dà de jiùshì tā yònɡ Hànyǔ duō yìdiǎn.
So their biggest help was talking to you in Chinese more often.
A:
Duì
对。
Yes
Q:
Nnà nǐ jué dé nǐ de hàn yǔ lǎo shī zuì dà de jiào xué tè diǎn shì shén me ?
To you, what is their most impressive characteristic of their teaching methodology?
A:
Yǒu yí wèi lǎoshī, tā měitiān dài bàozhǐ rànɡ wǒmen tīnɡyitīnɡ yì piān wénzhānɡ, zhèɡe yěshì rànɡ wǒmen mànmànde xíɡuàn le bàozhǐ shɑnɡ de zhènɡshì yònɡfǎ, duì wǒmen xué xiě hànzì yěyǒu bānɡzhù.
One of the teacher brought us Chinese newspaper and read an article to us everyday. This enabled us to get familiar of usage of formal Chinese on newspaper. It also help us learning Chinese writing.
Q:
kěyǐ xué yìxiē bǐjiào nán de shēnɡzì.
(And you) can learn more advanced vocabulary.
A:
Shì de, érqiě měitiān kàn xīnwén yěshì hǎoshì 。
Yes. It was good to watch news report as well.
Q:
Nà nǐ juédé xuéxí Hànyǔ duì nǐ de ɡōnɡzuò hé shēnɡhuó yǒu shénme bānɡzhù mɑ?
Do you feel learning Chinese useful to your job or daily life?
A:
Zhèɡe duì wǒ ɡōnɡzuò yǒu hěn hǎo de bānɡzhù, yīnwèi wǒ xiànzài zài Yīnɡɡuó de mǒu yì suǒ dàxué fùzé zhāoshēnɡ, zài Zhōnɡɡuó hé Xiānɡɡǎnɡ shìchǎnɡ zhāoshēnɡ,, suǒyǐ wǒ měicì lái Zhōnɡɡuó chūchāi, wǒ ǒu’ěr yào ɡēn xuéshenɡ de fùmǔ yào jiāoliú, tāmen yě bùyídìnɡ huì shuō Yīnɡyǔ, suǒyǐ zhǐnénɡ yònɡ Zhōnɡwén, suǒyǐ hěn zhònɡyào.
This is very useful to my job, because I am now working in a university in UK and my duty is to recruit new students in Mainland China and Hong Kong markets. So when I make business trip to China, I occasionaly need to communicate with Chinese parents who may not speak English. We can only speak in Mandarin and so it is very important.
Q:
Fēichánɡ ɡǎnxiè Lónɡ Tāo xiānshenɡ ɡēn wǒmen fēnxiǎnɡ le tā xuéxí Hànyǔ de xīndé, xīwànɡ kěyǐ duì dàjiā yǒusuǒ bānɡzhù. Xièxie (shōukàn), zàijiàn.

Asking for Direction 指路
Dialogue 原文:
A = Wang Fang (right) 王芳(右)
B = Li Jia, a colleague of Wang (left)
If you go from…… here is our company. If you start from our company, come out of the building, then turn right, then go straight. Pass two crossings then you’ll arrive the closest subway station, Dongzhimen station, then take line 2 to jian’guomen station. Then exchange to line one to the Dawanglu station. Take exit A, go straight and across the street. You won’t miss it.
Nà hái hěn fānɡbiàn. Wǒ chónɡfù yí xià, wǒmen chū le ɡōnɡsī wǎnɡ yòu ɡuǎi, ránhòu zhí zǒu, ɡuò liǎnɡ ɡè shízì lùkǒu dào dìtiězhàn, zuò èr hào xiàn dào Jiànɡuómén, zhuǎn yī hào xiàn dào Dàwànɡlù zhàn, A chūkǒu chūlái hòu zhízǒu, ɡuò mǎlù jiù dào le, duì mɑ?
It’s quite convenient. Let me repeat it again. I turn right after I come out of company, go straight and pass two crossings to the nearest subway station. Take line 2 to Jian’guomen then exchange line 1 to Dawanglu station. Exit A, go straight and cross the street. Is that correct?
